Wizard of Oz, 2016

This is a set design for the Wizard of Oz middle school musical at the Hamlin School. The process started with reading the script, and sketching out ideas on paper. Then, modeling the pieces in SketchUp and Rhino, I created digital files with real dimensions that could then be fabricated on the CNC Router. I created a total of six set pieces for the show, ranging from trees for the haunted forrest to the house in Kansas to the gates of Oz. The most complex piece from the set was a double-sided Oz Gate and Castle Wall piece that was mounted on caster wheels for ease of mobility on and off-stage. The process of creating this large-scale piece is detailed below. All pieces were created with performing arts teacher, Heidi Abbott, and fabricated with designer and engineer Rob Bell
